Voluntary renunciation of alcohol by Religious
08/05/2015.  INC #D.535
Talk / Speech Posted by National Delegate Antony EARATHARA

Fr. Jose Kuttianimattathil, former Provincial Superior of Bangalore Province, has published an article  on the question of voluntary renunciation of alcohol, in the latest issue of Bosco Udayam published from Kristu Jyoti College, Bangalore.

Echoing Pope John Paul II`s conviction that alcoholism is one of the worst plagues of modern society, he observes that today young people in particular are very much affected by alcoholism. After listing several motives for abstaining from alcohol, he concludes pointing out to our duty to``wake up the world`` and to be models for the young, and therefore to abstain from alcohol``. Do We Know Our Neighbourhood? September 2007
06/09/2007.  INM #D.313
Circulars Posted by Chennai Province Delegate PAKKAM Harris

While we have a concern for our neighbourhood that has resulted in a number of services we offer to the people around, it is still doubtful whether we really know our neighbourhood. It would be very beneficial to the community and to the religious vitality of the individual confreres if the members of the community go to visit their neighbourhood. A good knowledge of the socio-economic, political and cultural situation of the place where we live would help us serve the people better. If we make an attempt to know the youth situation of the place, it would offer us new perspectives on youth work. It would open up an altogether new world on the youth if we know how many of them are illiterate and educated, employed and unemployed among them. Participating in the local festivals or cultural gatherings would make us understand the youth we come into contact with in our premises... Download file to read the full text.

Salesians and Social Ministry in India
22/07/2007.  INN #D.293
Press Release Posted by National Delegate KUMPILUVELIL Louis

The Salesian history of India has been one of closeness to the poor. Among them, the poor youth have always taken the centre stage. This was true not only in educational institutions but also in social work initiatives. In the initial years, the numerous orphanages and boarding houses were their way of showing social concern. All the Provinces had orphanages and other similar houses for poor youth.

WITH LOVE TO THE CHILDREN OF TSUNAMI

Reports Posted by Chennai Province Delegate JOSEPH Andrew

Author: Fr.Arulanand Alphose SDB
Place: DBAI, Chennai, India

No relief camp has been set up in Chennai region. There is No clear policy from the Government with regard to rehabilitation of these people. Though 21 full days are over, there is no new housing facility and people are still lingering to their old places, sleeping on the pavements and in public places. Will they be shifted to a new place or will they be allowed to build their sheds in the same old places is a million dollar question.
