Transforming lives of Indian Youth through Films

Mumbai, Feb. 2. Guwahati: The Don Bosco Youth Film Festival of India (DBYFFI) was organised in eight venues of the province of Guwahati on 28th and 29th January. The venues were Don Bosco Institute, Don Bosco School, Guwahati, Don Bosco Socio Technical Institute, Tezpur, Don Bosco School, Sojong,  Don Bosco College, Tura, Don Bosco Kokrajhar, Don Bosco, Doomni and Don Bosco, Sirajuli. The Theme of the Film Festival was ``Youth and Nation Building``.
Mr. Habibullah Ahmed, the Director of NRLM (National Rural Livelihood Mission) of Sonitpur District, Assam was the chief guest at the inaugural programme at Tezpur. ``He exhorted the Youth to be creative and strive for excellence in the field that they are really passionate about. He  invited the youth to be more creative in the field of media and produce good content that can bring change oneself and the society at large`` he said.
Father Cletus Sebastian SDB, Director of Don Bosco Socio-Technical Institute Tezpur, highlighted the contribution of  Don Bosco and the Salesians in upbringing the young minds with deep rooted life values. ``The screening of the movie in the Institute has not only inspired the youngsters as they watched these films but also has triggered in them a spirit to face life more enthusiastically,`` he said.

The DBYFFI at Don Bosco Institute, Guwahati was inaugurated by Father Robert Simon SDB, Coordinator Group and Movements, Don Bosco Youth Animation for South Asia and other eminent Salesians. Father Paul Olphindro Lyngkot, the Vice Provincial of Shillong was also present on the dais. Father Simon while inaugurating the DBYFFI said  ``watching movies should trigger the minds of  the young to do something for the nature and the society and to effectively use the digital media and  technology to bridge the gap of knowledge among young people`` he said.

Father Johnson Parackal welcomed the dignitaries and shared valued information regarding the Don Bosco Youth Film Festival of India. ``Continuing with the success of the Bicentenary celebrations of the birth of St. John Bosco, this film festival is organised to remember the great contributions of the father and founder of the young,`` he said. ``The film festival is held in 100 venues of India. We thank the initiative of Boscom South Asia, who conceptualized this Film Festival to empower the youth`` he added.
In Sojong, the DBYFFI was inaugurated by Mr. Edward Kathar, Principal Holy Child Academy School. In his message he said that through film we can learn a lot. ``Film should inspire young people to be a change maker in the society,`` he said. Father. Lukas Marak, Rector of Don Bosco Sojong welcomed the Chief Guest and the participants to the Don Bosco Youth Film Festival of India.

The film festival at Don Bosco School, Panbazar was inaugurated by Father Sabastian Mathew, Principal. He welcomed the participants and wished that the movie screened should transform the lives of the young.  
The media are a ubiquitous presence in the lives of the Youth today. With the rise of digital platform and the growth of internet and the time spent with the media today has risen significantly. While we glorify the positive aspects of the media, we can never deny the fact of its negative aspects too.

The Don Bosco Film Festival awards were announced during the programmes the first place was awarded to the short film, `Saavat` directed by Jyoti Toradmal, second place  to `Paywat` directed by Mithunchandra Choudhari and third place to `Backbone` directed by Karunakaran. C.

There were many category awards and special awards too. The awards will be given by the Rector Major of the Salesian congregation, Father ngel Fernndez Artime at Chennai, in March.
