Present at the event were also numerous religious sisters, the entire Salesian Novitiate community from Dhajea with novices, their director and staff, a group of 16 friends from Shillong as well as 28 teachers from Morning Star School Chakraghatty East Nepal with Rector and Principal Father Binu Jacob.

Also Present at the function was his parish priest Father Gyan Stephen Rai of St Peter's Parish, Gaucharan, East Sikkim where Fr Samuel is to celebrate his first Holy Eucharist on Sunday 30 December 2018.

At the entrance procession, Deacon Samuel was escorted to the altar accompanied by his frail mother Esther Lepcha and his late father Mr Nicholas Rai's sister.

Province Youth Delegate and Provincial Council member Father Patrick Lepcha who also represented Kolkata Salesian Provincial at the ordination started the ceremony with a brief introduction of the candidate to be ordained as well as explained the significance of the event to a hall packed with some 500 plus faithful.

Special mention must be made about the 25 member youth choir and musicians who under the baton of Mr Soren Gurung rendered a selection of hymns in Nepali language.

The entire ceremony was held in Nepali language with booklets for all to follow the various moments of the ordination.

In his homily, the ordaining Bishop Lepcha gave deacon Samuel an unforgettable pastoral advice saying, ''Do not wait for people to come to you, you go to them.''

Father Samuel Rai's ordination motto is, ''Trust in the Lord and do good.'' (Ps. 37:3)

After a two and half hour ceremony which started on time at 10 a.m. faithful had ample time to greet the newly ordained while lunch was served for all visitors.

Father Samuel is assigned to Malbasey School as Boarding-in-charge.

Salesian community at Malbasey under the leadership of Father V.C. George, left no stone unturned to ensure the smooth flow of the entire event starting with breakfast, decoration of the auditorium, the choir, sound system and video coverage, preparation of the altar, the felicitation and lunch for all offered at different counters.

This is the second priestly ordination held at Don Bosco Malbasey which was started in 1989. The first ordination was that of Father Solomon Rai held in 2012.
